What Is a Journey?

How Journeys bring readers and authors together.

A Journey is a guided group experience around a story. An author opens one of their projects to a group of readers, who go through it together, one activity at a time, as the story unfolds.

Journeys and projects

A journey always belongs to a Project. The project holds the story; the journey is one group's way through it. A project can have several journeys, with different readers and at different times, and each reader can be in one journey per project.

Roles in a journey

  • The guide is the project's author. They open the journey, approve the readers who ask to join, and publish activities: readings, surveys, discussions and instructions.
  • Participants are the readers who've joined. They take part in the activities, and can highlight, comment and discuss as they go.

A journey from start to finish

A journey's Status shows where it is, and decides who can see and join it:

  1. Draft: only the guide can see it, while they set it up.
  2. Open: readers can find it and ask to join.
  3. Active: the journey has begun, and participants are taking part in its activities. It doesn't take new readers.
  4. Completed: the guide has ended it. Participants can still finish the activities they haven't done.

A journey can also be Paused, when participants can't take part for now, or Archived, when it's been removed.
