Activities

What an activity is.

An Activity is something participants do in a journey, like reading a chapter, answering a survey or joining a discussion. The guide creates activities, and publishes them over time as the story unfolds.

Activity types

TypeWhat participants do
ReadingRead one or more of the project's blocks, highlight and comment, and mark it complete.
SurveyAnswer a few questions: true or false, multiple choice, a 1 to 5 rating, or a short answer.
DiscussionRespond to a prompt, and reply to each other.
InstructionsRead a note from the guide, and mark it done.
The EndThe last activity, added when the guide ends the journey. Participants finish the journey.

Every activity has a Activity Title. Surveys and discussions can also have Instructions, which explain what the guide is asking.

Pending and published

An activity starts pending: only the guide sees it, and can change, reorder or delete it. When the guide publishes, every pending activity becomes visible to participants at once, and they get a notification.

A published activity can't be changed, because participants may already have responded to it.

Responses

What a participant does in an activity is their response:

  • Readings: whether they've completed it, and their highlights and comments. The guide sees these in the text.
  • Surveys: their answers, which the guide sees per question or per person.
  • Discussions: their response and replies, which everyone in the journey sees.

Completing activities counts toward a participant's reading points. See Rewards & Sparks.
