Journeys

What a Journey is.

A Journey is a guided group experience around a story. A guide opens one of their projects to a group of readers, who take part in its activities together as the story unfolds.

Guides and participants

  • The guide is the author of the journey's project. They open the journey, approve requests to join, publish activities, and see how readers respond.
  • Participants are the readers in the journey. Each one asks to join, and takes part once the guide approves them.

A journey also has a Journey Name, a Capacity (the number of readers the guide hopes for, which is a goal rather than a limit), a Reading Pace, and notes for participants in its Journey Notes.

Journey statuses

A journey's Status decides who can see and join it, and what the guide can still change:

StatusWhat it means
DraftOnly the guide can see it, and can change all of it.
OpenReaders can find it and ask to join.
ActiveIt has begun, and participants are taking part. No new readers join.
PausedIt's on hold: participants can't take part in activities for now.
CompletedThe guide has ended it. Participants can finish what they haven't.
ArchivedIt's been removed, and readers no longer see it.

Where a participant stands

Each participant has their own status in the journey, separate from the journey's:

  • Pending: asked to join, and waiting for the guide.
  • Rejected: the guide declined the request. They can ask again.
  • Active: in the journey, seeing its activities and getting its notifications.
  • Paused: still a member, but taking a break, without notifications.
  • Finished: reached the end of the journey's activities.
  • Left or Removed: no longer in the journey.
